The New Face of Food Service: Fresh, Fun and Healthy
The Union School District provides an excellent and healthy food service program!
Students and parents appreciate the exciting and positive changes to our lunch program where we stress healthier food and beverage choices. Children can select from a variety of homemade baked entrees, freshly prepared sandwiches and delicious and nutritious choices from our salad and fresh vegetable bar. Along with their meal, they have the choice of 1% low-fat milk or non-fat chocolate milk.
Water and juice may be purchased separately at additional cost.
To assist children in developing good nutritional habits, all of the meals and snacks that we offer meet the California Senate Bill (SB12). SB12 mandates that the Ala Carte entrees and snacks served to students must meet the nutritional guidelines which are set and monitored by the State of California for lower fat and sugar content.
Union School District has implemented a new point of sale system in all the school cafeterias. The new system allows students to use their ID cards for prepaid, reduced, and free meal purchases instead of using cash or paper tickets (paper tickets will no longer be issued to students). At breakfast or lunch, students simply scan their ID card, pick up their meal and the transaction is reflected on their account.
We are very excited that the outdated Union Middle School central kitchen has been completely remodeled. The kitchen now features new appliances and a better layout for serving. We are very proud of our endeavors to provide appetizing and healthy meals to the students and staff of Union School District.
Farm to School Program
The Union School District strives to offer our students the freshest fruits and vegetables possible. Through the Farm to School Program and the Food 4 Thought produce networking company, we are able to purchase fresh locally grown fruits and vegetables.
The District is proud to be in a partnership with small, family- owned California farms that share our commitment to student health and nutrition.
The Union School District, USDA and NSD are
