UDEA and Union School District Negotiations Joint Communiqué

The Union District Educators Association (UDEA) and Union School District are pleased to announce that we have reached a tentative agreement on a three-year contract. On December 3, 2019, UDEA and the District’s negotiating teams came back to the table to work collaboratively in agreeing to the terms in the collective bargaining agreement. The next steps will include approval by the Santa Clara County Office of Education, ratification by the UDEA membership, and approval by the Board of Trustees. The Tentative Agreement includes adjustments to various Articles of the UDEA Collective Bargaining Agreement, including compensation, workday, class size, special education, and safety.

Both sides enter into this agreement amicably and are looking forward to our future work together. We would like to recognize the excellent work of the UDEA bargaining team, which included Shannon McDowell, Kevin Deaton, Mike Barbara, Nathan Hickey, Star Standridge, and Adia Hoag. Also, the USD bargaining team consisted of Steve Burrell, Rita Sohal, Sarah Jellin, Todd Feinberg, Eric Scharer, and Karen Rezendes.

Thank you to the continued dedication of our teachers and certificated staff along with the continued support of our Board of Trustees.

The parties have agreed that this Tentative Agreement completes negotiations for the 2019-20 and the 2020-21 school years. Both teams will go back to the negotiating table in 2021-22 to discuss only salary and benefits.
