2020-2021 Standards-Based Report Cards Grades TK-5
Reporting student progress is an essential component of the communication and partnership between home and school. This year, our communication is more essential than ever as students are in a state of flux with distance learning and we are committed to do our best to measure student progress and growth. Distance learning does present some challenges when measuring progression towards state standards, so please know that current progress indicators are our best assessed measure of how your student is currently performing.
Each student will be evaluated on their individual progress towards achieving the standards and skills of their grade level. It is our goal to provide parents and students with accurate information that thoughtfully reflects where students are within their learning journey.
Union School District utilizes a performance-based scale to best reflect student progression towards standards, shown below. Each scale indicator includes numbers and verbiage that are intended to reflect student achievement towards meeting each standard within the students’ grade level.
In order to mitigate as much learning loss as possible, standards for both ELA and Mathematics have been sequenced and identified as our primary areas of focus for the 20-21 school year. These “essential” standards will receive the typical progress indicator 1-4 at the trimester during which they are assessed. On our report cards, the teacher will be able to clearly describe students strengths and areas for improvement in relation to meeting grade level standards in the comments section. If a student is either performing beyond or below grade level standards, the comments section should clearly reflect the progress of the student. For this year, we have also added a new performance indicator, Embedded - E, to indicate the additional ELA and Math standards that have been integrated into content area topics.
