enrollment for the  2018-19 SCHOOL IS OPEN

Online Registration for the 2018-19 School Year opened on February 1, 2018. This process is only for new students to the District. Existing elementary and middle school students are automatically enrolled for the next school year. We look forward to meeting our new families and welcoming back those with younger siblings.


New Student Registration is a two-part process. Both parts must be completed prior to a student being considered enrolled in a USD School.  
  • Part I is online registration via InfoSnap. 
  • Part II requires bringing all registration paperwork* to the District Office for the summer months beginning June 13, 2018. 
Please note: only complete documentation packages will be accepted. Partial submission of paperwork does not complete a student's registration.  (*See 'New Enrollment Checklist' pdf form to the right) 
DISTRICT OFFICE SUMMER HOURS: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm Monday - Thursday. The DO is CLOSED Fridays from June 15 - July 27.

At various times during the school year, certain grade levels are closed to new registrants at certain schools. As a Union School District Family, if your school and/or grade level is closed, we will guarantee placement at one of our schools. The following schools and grade levels are now closed to new students registering for USD for the 2018-19 school year*:

  • Alta Vista Elementary School - 
    • 2nd & 3rd grade* (*as of 6/11/18)  
  • Carlton Avenue School -
    • Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, & 4th grade* (*as of 6/11/18) 
  • Guadalupe Elementary School -
    • 3rd grade* (*as of 6/11/18) 
    • Kindergarten* (*as of 7/27/18)
  • Lietz Elementary School -
    • Kindergarten, 1st, 4th, & 5th* (*as of 6/11/18) 
  • Noddin Elementary School -
    • 5th grade* (*as of 6/11/18) 
    • 2nd grade* (*as of 7/6/18)
  • Oster Elementary School - 
    • TK, Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, & 5th grade* (*as of 6/11/18)
  • Union Middle School - 
    • 6th grade* (*as of 6/11/18)
    • 7th grade* & 8th grade* (*as of 6/11/18)
*We are asking parents to still enroll online for your school of residence and bring registration documents to the District Office. A waiting list will be created for the home school in the event space becomes available (i.e. a student moves). The District Office staff works with school sites and parents to determine student placement.  
General information

Union School District's 8 schools serve the communities of Los Gatos and San Jose. Our teachers educate more than 5,600 children from preschool to eighth grade.
If your child is new to Union Elementary School District, you will need to register him or her to attend one of our schools. Use the School Finder link above to locate your school of residence ("home school").
To register, parents or guardians will need to first complete the InfoSnap online school registration (at unionsd.org), then bring all proofs of residency, the child's birth certificate and immunization records to the home school to complete enrollment.

Depending on your child's birthdate, he or she may qualify for Transitional Kindergarten (TK), an exciting grade taught by a select group of passionate teachers. 

Students who live outside the Union Elementary School District boundaries and wish to attend USD schools may do so on an approved Inter-district Transfer. Contact your home school district first to apply for an Inter-district Transfer to USD. 


Incoming Elementary and Middle School Students

All incoming elementary and middle school students are assigned to their home school (the school that corresponds to the student's home address within the Union School District designated boundaries). Parents or Guardians who wish to request a school within USD, other than the child's school of residence, must first register with their school of residence and then complete an Intra-district Transfer request form which is available at the Union School District Office. Intra-district Transfer requests are due at the District Office by March 1st for the upcoming school year. Transfer requests received after March 1st are placed on a waiting list in the order in which they are received. School placement is determined the week prior to the beginning of school and may be as late as the first week of school. All transfers are approved on a space-available basis. Other considerations include the student’s attendance record, behavior and academic progress. 

Middle School Students: In keeping with Board policy, students who completed 5th grade in an Union School District elementary school will be automatically assigned to the middle school that corresponds to their home address. If you prefer a  middle school other than your home school, you will need to make an Intra-district Transfer request through the District Office.
