Kindness is a gift we can all give each other, and this week, our students, parents, teachers and staff have gone above and beyond to perform small acts of kindness that foster the amazing communities in our schools. These simple acts, as part of the 2019 Great Kindness Challenge, are sure to continue throughout the year and help teach and foster the social and emotional learning of our students. There are so many examples at our schools that parents, students and teachers shared. You can view a few highlights by visiting: http://wke.lt/w/s/QI1Ya
Creating a culture of kindness and respect is incredibly important at all of our school sites. The social and emotional health of our students is a priority, and there are several initiatives that highlight our goal to make every child successful both academically and socially. We recently hosted several well-attended parent sessions by mydigitalTAT2 covering topics on social media and technology. To sign up for an upcoming session, visit bit.ly/USDParentsLearn. Additionally, at the January Board Meeting, the Board received an update on the district’s Special Education initiatives including information on new support staff and educator training that benefit all students. Our district has participated in the Cambrian Relay for Life for years, and this year will be no different. District and school staff will walk to support cancer research during this year’s event on April 26th and 27th. Union School District is also teaming up to support the American Cancer Society in a Donation Drive Day that will take place on Saturday, March 2nd from 10 AM to 2 PM. All donations will go to the ACS Discovery Shop which supports the ACL and Relay for Life. Click here for the flyer for next month’s Donation Drive Day supporting these great organizations.
Later in February, we will also be hosting another Joint Community Meeting with Belmont Village Senior Living to discuss development plans at the Union School District former Corporation (bus) Yard. We welcome any interested members of the community to attend. The meeting will take place on February 25th, 2019 at 6 PM at the Union Middle School Cafeteria (2130 Los Gatos Almaden Road, San Jose, CA 95124.)
