May - June Superintendent’s Message

Staff and community meetings were held at all of the school sites in April to update our school staff and our parent community on our efforts with the Bond and Construction.  Sharon Serrano, Bond Director, facilitated the meetings.  Attendees learned the following: projects completed to date, projects scheduled for summer 2016, and projects scheduled for the 2016-2017 school year.  Those in attendance had the opportunity to provide feedback on future projects and prioritization.  If you have any questions on our Bond and Construction work, please contact Sharon at (408) 377-8010 extension 44234.

In late April, our 3rd-8th grade students began the online Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium state tests.  The testing provides us with the opportunity to identify how we can best support our students and teachers in the implementation of the new standards.  With the first year of this new assessment in the spring of 2015, our students and teachers demonstrated that they were well-prepared for the challenge of the new standards and the new assessment.

May is a month of appreciation.  All of our elementary schools were honored on May 5th at the Gold Ribbon Celebration.  The California Gold Ribbon Schools Award Program was created to honor schools while the California Distinguished Schools Program is on hiatus as California transitions to new assessment and accountability systems.  At the Board of Trustees Meeting on May 9th, our dedicated parent volunteers from each of our school sites were honored.  Parent support and encouragement of our educational programs has been vital to the success of each of our schools.  Staff appreciation day was on May 11th.  On that day we acknowledged the efforts and achievements of our dedicated staff.

It is hard to imagine that we are coming to the close of the school year.   It has been a year of accomplishments and of growth.  I am proud of our amazing staff: classified staff, teachers, and administrators.  Each and every individual in this district has dedicated themselves to the children and the families of this district.

As we enter the final weeks of the school year, I wish you and your families the very best during the summer months.  Enjoy your summer break!
