November/December Superintendent’s Message

The November election was yet another indicator of the amazing community we have in Union School District.  Our voters came out in force and the passage of the Measure B Parcel Tax renewal was a resounding success with almost 75% voter approval.  All of us in USD are so very appreciative of the support of our parents, our staff, and our community. Thank you.

With the change in the weather we are seeing an increase in traffic around our schools. On November 3rd, one of our students was hit by a car while walking in a crosswalk on his way to school. Thankfully, he will be fine, but this incident reminds all of us that ensuring the safety of our children must be our foremost priority.    Mornings are often a rushed time. I encourage each of you to make a conscious effort to plan your mornings such that you are not in a rush. Being hurried or late in dropping off your child to school might cause you to be a little less aware of your surroundings. Our children are our most precious gift and we must ensure their safety.

For our elementary sites, the first trimester ends on November 13th.  Parent-teacher conferences at our elementary sites took place last month.  Parents are a vital partner in every child’s education and it’s important that we communicate with you on a regular basis regarding your child’s progress. Please let your child know that the mutual effort between yourself and the teacher is integral to your child’s success.

At Dartmouth and Union Middle Schools, the quarter ended on October 23rd.  Following the end of the quarter, progress reports were sent to families to inform them of their child’s progress in each class.

With the holidays rapidly approaching, now is the time to reflect on those things we are most thankful for: our family, our friends, and our community.  From all of us in USD to you and yours, we wish you a Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Holidays.
