TO BE ACCEPTED AND PAPER SCREENED:
Complete the EDJOIN application for an advertised position.
Applications for an advertised position will be placed in a paper screening process.
Resumes are required with the application.
Reference letters must be signed by the author.
Certificated: Out-of-State candidates who do not currently hold a California Credential must submit copies of transcripts for application packets to be considered complete.
Certificated: Out-of-Country candidates who do not currently hold a California Credential must submit copies of their evaluated transcripts for application packets to be considered complete.
FOLLOWING SCREENING:
An examination may be required for certain positions.
Classified: Upon being selected for a position, a pre-employment physical exam may be required for certain positions.
Applicants will be called to schedule interviews.
Due to the high number of applications, only those applicants selected for interviews will be contacted.
Applications will be held for one year unless requested otherwise by the applicant.
Substitute Positions
Teaching/Certificated Substitute
Join the USD team by being a substitute teacher. We are looking for individuals that are interested in being a substitute teacher which allows you to choose the days you want to work. Consider becoming a substitute teacher in Union School District to help support our students and schools. We are accepting applications for part-time and full-time substitute teachers.
Below are links to key steps to starting the process of obtaining your Substitute Teaching Permit and applying to work at your neighborhood school.
Obtaining your California Substitute Teaching Permit - Via the Santa Clara County Office of Education
In order to be a substitute teacher in Santa Clara County, you will need to obtain an Emergency 30-day Substitute Teacher Permit from the Commission on Teacher Credentialing. You will need:
Proof of Bachelors’ Degree or higher
Completion of the Basic Skills Assessment (not applicable starting in January 2023)
Fingerprinting
A current TB test result (within the last four years) or a TB Risk Assessment, signed by a Health Provider
Once you receive your permit, you’ll complete the USD Certificated Substitute Teacher Application, and complete all background check and health form requirements.

Substitute Teacher Pay Rate
Daily Rate: $200 ($100.00 half-day)
Special Education Substitute Daily Rate: $225
Long-Term Substitute Daily Rate: $237
USD Retired Teacher Daily Rate: $250
(Must have taught 12 years in the USD)USD Retired Teacher Special Education Daily Rate: $281.25
(Must have taught 12 years in the USD)
Non-Teaching/Classified Substitute
We also have many opportunities for substitute instructional assistants, activity leaders, school site administrative assistants, and food service assistants within Union School District.
Classified Substitute Pay Rate
The hourly rate for instructional assistants, administrative assistants, activity leaders, and food service assistants varies depending on the individual job/position. Please see the CSEA Salary Schedule for more information.
Substitute Information
All employees, including substitutes, are encouraged to set-up their pay warrants for Direct Deposit. Submit a Direct Deposit Authorization form to the Business Services Department with a voided check. Once Direct Deposit has been established, pay warrant and tax information is available online only at SCCOE Employee Self Service.
